Our New Award
Here at Balmer Lawn Hotel, we are delighted to announce that our dedication to hospitality has been recognised by the Beautiful South Tourism Awards, which has awarded us gold in its Resilience and Innovation category.
This is the fourth time we’ve been hailed as award winners, with our other achievements being distributed by the Southampton Hospitality Awards, Guide for Brides Customer Service Awards, and the recent Springboard Awards for Excellence 2022.
Award Winners: Why Were We Nominated?
It was our behaviour and adaptations during the Covid-19 pandemic that cemented our place as Beautiful South Tourism award winners. We are proud to say that while the hospitality industry was struggling through the lockdowns, we refused to let this affect us.
This resulted in the implementation of The Lodge Kitchen and Bar, our Covid-compliant outdoor dining area, where guests could continue to safely enjoy our services.
When considering us for the award, the judges focused on how The Lodge Kitchen & Bar managed a successful launch during the pandemic, where we served 3,500 covers during the first three weeks and a resounding 7,812 over the further five weeks, providing a safe and enjoyable experience for our guests during a time of uncertainty.
In addition to our curated Covid-safe dining environment, we also transformed the way that food and drink could be ordered at Balmer Lawn Hotel, reducing direct social interaction to keep our staff and guests safe.
To achieve this, we developed a geo-located app for guests to install and order food that could then be delivered to anywhere in the grounds, another success that resulted in safer dining and sales of £10,000 in the first quarter.

Upon becoming award winners, our general manager, Michael Clitheroe stated that “The Beautiful South Tourism Awards celebrate the best of the best, and we are incredibly proud to take home the gold and be recognised as a leading innovator in tourism following the pandemic.
“With tourism in the UK being hit hard over the past two years, we knew we had to come up with new and innovative ways for the business to survive and further offer support to our local New Forest community.
The development and construction of The Lodge Kitchen and Bar showcased our team’s unique ability to adapt to the fluctuating restrictions throughout the national lockdowns and demonstrated our speed to deliver major benefits to the business while demonstrating resilience.
It really has been an incredible start to the year for everyone connected with Balmer Lawn Hotel!”
