Events Operations Manager | Meet Lindsey

Lindsey is our events operations manager at Balmer Lawn Hotel and has been working with us for the past 10 months. In terms of her experience working in hospitality, Lindsey states that her favourite thing about  being our events manager is working on weddings.

“I love being able to make a bride's dream come true, as well as  watching the groom's face when he first sees the bride at the end of the aisle!”

The Role and of an Events Operations Manager

Lindsey’s work at Balmer Lawn Hotel helps to ensure that all the events we run and offer are going smoothly.  From weddings to parties, Lindsey is the mastermind behind providing our guests with the best possible experience.

Events Operations Manager - Wedding Set up

When discussing her experience working in hospitality at Balmer Lawn Hotel, Lindsey states that “every day and every week are always so different. I could be running a wedding and giving a bride and groom their perfect wedding one day, and running a conference making sure everything runs smoothly the next day.  So, describing one day or week in the life of events… is not so easy as it's always different and exciting.”

Lindsey’s Journey to Balmer Lawn Hotel

Lindsey began her hospitality journey as a teenager working within a catering company. After taking a brief break to try out retail opportunities, Lindsey went back to working in hospitality as a night porter in a 4 star hotel, working her way up the career ladder.

“Finally, I have arrived at Balmer Lawn Hotel as events operations manager, looking at the new phase in my life and passionate about conquering my new challenge.”

Interest and Qualifications

At Balmer Lawn Hotel, our staff are passionate about the field of hospitality, which often stems from previous knowledge of the sector.

When speaking to Lindsey about her interest in hospitality, she told us that it came from “my auntie. She worked in a senior role in an events catering company, bringing me on board when I was 13\14 years old. Together, we used to work at rugby matches, races and cricket matches, where I fell in love with creating and hosting a range of events.”

In terms of qualifications, Lindsey worked towards an NVQ in leadership and supervisory at level 3. Along with her experience, these qualifications and passion makes her a brilliant employee here at Balmer Lawn Hotel, where she “fell in love with the variety of activities in a day’s work. Became addicted to the buzz a day can bring and seeing what can be achieved by hard work and team work.”

Why Balmer Lawn Hotel?

When speaking to Lindsey, we were keen to find out why she chose Balmer Lawn Hotel as the place she chose for working in hospitality and to further her career. Lindsey told us that “there was a sense of grit and determination through passion in the hotel. A passion to strive for much more. A sense of undivided team work throughout.”

Future Plans and Advice

In terms of Lindsey’s future at Balmer Lawn Hotel, she is set up with 91 weddings and a busy events year. After which, she is looking forward to “Finishing the year and congratulating my team for a job well done. To push the boundaries and improve on as much as we can.”

For anyone considering a career in hospitality, Lindsey advises not to “come in thinking it's all sunshine and rainbows. Hospitality is hard work. But everything you are willing to put in, will 100% be returned to you in teamwork, family, love, and care. If you are someone that wants to show what he/she can do then the hospitality industry is the industry that is a dysfunctional family that will have you back and will drive you to succeed.”
