A Career in Hospitality | Jen’s Role at Balmer Lawn Hotel

Jen is our talented corporate sales executive and has just celebrated her one year anniversary of working with us here at Balmer Lawn Hotel!

On a day-to-day basis, Jen takes on the responsibilities of taking enquiries, writing proposals, hosting client visits and working with our operations team to deliver the events in the diary.

When asked about her favourite parts of working in hospitality,  Jen said: “I love working with corporate clients on their conferences and events. It’s exciting bringing my proposal to life, especially if it includes weird and wonderful activities such as duck herding or stargazing!”

Jen’s Journey to Balmer Lawn Hotel

Jen is relatively new to the world of hospitality, having previously worked in retail operations for 15 years where she worked cross-departmentally on projects with finance, HR and marketing. This allowed her to gain experience in running a successful business and a keen eye for detail.



In her previous role, Jen was tasked with organising conferences for up to 300 guests in locations across the UK, but having been made redundant in the pandemic, Jen realised her passion in delivering events, wanting to work as the host rather than the client.



Jen told us: “I craved a new challenge, plus hospitality is a stable industry. Who doesn’t want to spend their well-earned money relaxing in a four-star luxury New Forest hotel? Especially now that guests are choosing to holiday in the UK!”

When we asked Jen why she chose to further her career in hospitality with us at Balmer Lawn Hotel, she said:


“I knew the hotel as a customer. The location is beautiful, the hotel is modern and stylish and the conference suites are adaptable to any type of event. Having come from a family brand, I love the family-owned element. Chris, Alison and Michael are approachable, friendly, supporting and good to work with.


“As I sat down waiting for my first interview, I knew I wanted to work at the Balmer Lawn Hotel.”


Future Plans and Advice

We have some brilliant plans in motion for our future here at the Balmer Lawn Hotel, and we asked Jen what she’s particularly looking forward to while working with us. 


“We are an award-winning venue having recently won awards for customer service, innovation, resilience during the pandemic and our food. Our teams are also being nominated for individual awards - it’s exciting seeing the successes and where they will take us next.”


Here at Balmer Lawn Hotel, we’re always looking to expand our team with passionate and dedicated individuals. For those considering a career in hospitality, Jen’s advice is to ‘just go for it! You’ll learn something new everyday!’
